Cathy has owned and directed Dancexpress since 1992. She has danced and competed nationally in Las Vegas and New York. In 1990, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from West Chester University where she also minored in psychology and spanish. She has brought many dancers over the years to regional competitions, workshops, and showcases. Cathy also is in charge of the group “Showstoppers” who dance locally at nursing homes and community events. She continues to train and take class from the leading dancers and choreographers in the industry today. Cathy recently won a teacher’s scholarship to the Pulse Intensive in New York which she will be attending this Summer. In May, her competitive dance team junior and senior dancers won the high scores at 2 different dance competitions.
Melissa has been dancing since the age of 4. She was trained at Debbie Apalucci’s Touch of Class where she also taught for 6 years. She was involved in their production of The Nutcracker and their traveling group Dancertainers. Melissa has competed in national competitions which were held in Orlando, Las Vegas, and Atlantic City. She has also performed at Disney’s Magic Kingdom and Epcot while in Florida for competition. She has attended many workshops taught by Joe Lanteri and Frank Hatchett. She has performed during halftime at a 76ers game and at a Phillies game. Melissa was on the Philadelphia Kixx dance team for three years and was captain for two.
Kim Fynes began dancing at the age of 3. Her training includes Jazz, Tap, and Ballet. Kim joined Dancexpress in2004 after returning from College. She attended Loyola College in Maryland where she was a member of the Dance Team that performed at halftime for basketball games as well as many other events. The Team also competed in Disney World. Becoming a member of the Loyola College Dance Company her Freshman year, she taught jazz in addition to taking several classes and performing in the annual spring show.
Tammy Turberville’s love of dance began at the age of three when she began her training at Touch of Class dance studio where she was a student for over 15 years. She began competing at the local and national levels in Jazz and Tap, and as a teenager was selected to dance for Maurice Hines’ “Celebration of Tap Dance” in Philadelphia. Tammy went on to teach for TOC as well as for Plymouth and Haverford’s Recreation Departments. Tammy lives in Media with her husband and two children and continues to take classes locally and at Broadway Dance Center in New York City. She recently attended the Pulse on Tour in Atlantic City, New Jersey where she took class from world famous choreographers including Chris Judd, Wade Robson, Mia Michaels, Tyce Diorio, and Wade Robson.
Madison has been dancing at Dancexpress since she was 3, and has been teaching since she was 13. She has taken tap, jazz, and ballet every year, but trained intensely in ballet for 6 years. In the past 3 years, Madison has fell in love with hip-hop from taking classes with Matt Steffanina, Dana Alexa, at the Pulse and most recently Rosero McCoy. In the summer of 2014, she went to L.A. and took classes at Millenium Dance Complex, and IDA Hollywood for more dance experience. She has also competed with Dancexpress multiple times throughout her journey with us. Madison looks forward to teaching while she finishes out her college degree at Eastern University.
Alexis Diaz, a Dancexpress alum, has been dancing since the age of two. She continued to study dance through her college career, learning a variety of techniques and history, until graduating Rider University with a dual degree in Elementary Education and Dance. In college, she participated in multiple student showcases and assisted in a children’s dance club. Alexis has also taken classes at Millenium Dance Complex and Koresh in Philadelphia. Since graduating, she has worked as a professional dancer for teams such as the Trenton Freedom Extreme Dance Team and the Philadelphia Soulmates. She also assisted with the Junior Soulmates Program. Her favorite style of dance has always been hip hop and she is beyond excited to share that enthusiasm with her classes this year.
Alana has been dancing since age 2 and began teaching at Dance Express in 2005. Growing up, she trained in Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz and Contemporary, primarily at Dance Express, Touch of Class, and with Jerzy Golek at Betsy Daily. She competed regionally at NYCDA, ADA and Starpower, as well as performed the Nutcracker twice: once as a young dancer with the International Ballet Theater, and again in her teens as Clara in the Touch of Class production. Alana continued dancing through college at Cornell University, where she was a member, choreographer and the Public Relations chair for the Shadows Dance Troupe. She also studied kinesiology of dance and remained teaching hip hop to students throughout her time in Ithaca. Today, Alana continues to grow her expertise as a certified group fitness instructor, specializing in dance fitness and barre classes.
Elaine Gregory has been dancing since the age of 8 at Dancexpress, taking class, dancing competitively and participating in Show Stoppers. When determining her professional career path, her passion for dance and teaching translated directly to her academic career. She is a current Cabrini University student, double majoring in elementary education and special education. Her focus on elementary aged students is evident on the dance floor, where she especially enjoys teaching kindergarten through grade 5 dancers. Elaine specializes in Hip Hop and Tap, although she has experience teaching all dance genres.
Sevon Wright is a dancer/choreographer in the Philadelphia area. She began dancing at the Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts (CCCEPA). Sevon entered CCCEPA as a vocal major but left as a dance major. After she became a dance major her choreographic journey began; she has choreographed several pieces at CCCEPA including her first piece on their stage "Paradise" and her last one during her senior year "Date Night Story". Not only that but she choreographed many of the dances for her school's African American Heritage Month performance every year. Also throughout high school she choreographed several musicals for elementary and middle schools like "The Jungle Book" and "Aladdin" Sevon was also a performer at Six Flags Over Georgia's "Fright Fest" and "Holiday In The Park". Since graduation Sevon moved to Philadelphia to pursue her dancing career. She is currently a dancer with Beyond Dance Company, Femme Collective Philly, and Kathanghah Dance Company. She is also an assistant director for Kathanghah. She teaches at several schools in the Philly area; teaching jazz, hip hop, contemporary, ballet, and modern dance and performs and choreographs constantly. She recently performed and choreographed new work at the RAW natural born artists showcase “ Magnify” in Philadelphia at the Trocadero Theater. Sevon continues to look for new performance opportunities and new ways to showcase her artwork.
