DANCEXPRESS DANCE STUDIO

“Appetite for Dance”

2008 DRESS REHEARSAL AND RECITAL INFORMATION

The following are suggestions that will help your child enjoy his/her performance.

HEADPIECES: Secure all with plenty of bobby pins. Ask your child to bow and shake their head to make sure the headpiece is in properly. NO JEWELRY!

BALLET CLASSES: should have hair in a bun or French braid if hair is shoulder length or longer. All other classes at the studio only need to keep the sides and front of their hair away from their faces.

MAKE UP is required at dress rehearsal and the performance. Stage lighting will wash out a dancer’s natural coloring. Eye shadow, blush, and bright lipstick will revive them. Avoid shades of peach and purple on lips and cheeks.

***LABEL*** every dance shoe and costume piece with your child’s name. Remember they all look the same! Tie ballet slippers and tuck in bows. Double knot tap and jazz shoes. Make sure their shoes are the correct color.

PLEASE!! A cover up is required over costumes when leaving backstage to go in the audience. No one will be allowed in the auditorium during the recital with a costume on. You can pick up younger children in their dressing room after their dance but PLEASE DON’T LEAVE THE AUDITORIUM WHILE A DANCE IS IN PROGRESS.

DRESS REHEARSAL IS MANDATORY. Please arrive at dress rehearsal at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time above. Students may come to rehearsal already dressed in costume, with their dance shoes in a bag. It is advisable to familiarize yourself with the dressing rooms before the show. Dress rehearsal is in full costume and make up. Students should sit in the auditorium until they are called on stage.

Pictures and videos may be taken during dress rehearsal. Rehearsal usually runs quickly, but please be patient since we need to make sure the dancers feel comfortable on stage.

PERFORMANCE

PLACE: Centennial Hall at The Haverford School

DATE: Sunday, May 18th, 2008

TIMES: 10:00 AM, 12:00 noon, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM, and 6:00 PM sharp.

The following requirements include standard performance etiquette and other backstage suggestions. We have your child’s safety in mind. Please read carefully.

*A female parent or guardian only is permitted in the girl’s dressing room. Please leave siblings in the auditorium with a responsible adult. Back stage areas must remain clear for performers and assistants, anyone else will be asked to leave. Boys are provided with a separate dressing area.

*Please have your child completely dressed and in full make up 15 minutes prior to show time. At this time, parents can go to their seats and enjoy the show. Performers remain backstage for the entire show, unless they have a ticket to enter the auditorium. (Children and performers under 5 years old may sit on laps.) Performers must either change out of their costume or wear a cover up to enter the auditorium. Assistants will be available to help the younger children

PERFORMERS IN 2 OR MORE ROUTINES

Moms are welcome to assist their child backstage with costume changes. Please only leave the auditorium between dances.

BACKSTAGE PROCEDURE

Doors to the dressing rooms are guarded carefully by a responsible adult. This adult has a record of all family seat numbers so we can contact a parent if necessary. Performers proceed through five stations, which are monitored by our helpers.

Dancers are lined up in the dressing room.

They move into the hall and are attended by an assistant.

Behind the stage they wait quietly to enter the stage.

On Stage!

An assistant walks them back to the dressing room.

CAMERAS AND VIDEOS

We do not allow any pictures or video taping during the performance. Please do your photographing and videotaping at dress rehearsal. Cameras on shoulders block views and flashes distract the performers, which could result in injury. Cameras and video recorders are not permitted at the show. Bradley Video Inc., will be filming each performance. I think you will be pleased with the quality of this DVD. A flyer is enclosed. Return your order form ASAP to Bradley Video, Inc. since they need a certain amount of orders for the show to be recorded.

TICKETS FOR THE PERFORMANCE will be handed out by your dance teacher during the week of May 5th. Tickets will only be given to families who have paid their tuition in full. The due date for the last monthly tuition payment is the first week of May.

Many hours have been spent organizing your child’s performance. Please take note of all the regulations and remember we have your child’s safety and enjoyment in mind. Please respect the Haverford School and help us maintain a pleasant relationship with them so that they will look forward to our return visits. Each show is approximately 1 hour long and Centennial hall is air-conditioned. Please stay for the entire show and support all the Dancexpress dancers. All of them worked so hard this year and would like to show you what they have accomplished.

NOTES
